To help you prepare for your special day we have prepared a suggested wedding etiquette and suggested timetable of the day.
Wedding Etiquette
The Receiving Line
This is a formal greeting of your guests before
you conclude the drinks reception. It is not
essential, but does ensure that you meet all your guests:
Bride & Groom
Newlyweds parents
Best Man – Optional
Bridesmaids – Optional
Cutting the Cake
This is announced by the toastmaster or
Best Man. The first slice is then cut by the Newlyweds.
The cake can either be served with coffee after
the meal or with the evening buffet.
Top Table Seating Plan
When preparing your seating plan the
Top Table should be as follows:
Chief Bridesmaid
Grooms Father
Brides Mother
Groom
Bride
Brides Father
Grooms Mother
Best Man
Toasts & Speeches
These are usually before the meal and are made
in the following order:
To the Newlyweds
This is normally by the parent of the
Newlyweds or a close friend.
To the Wedding Party
Proposed by the Newlyweds after their reply to
the first toast. The response to this is made by the Best Man.
Our Suggested Timetable for the Day
Whilst you are very welcome to suggest your own preference as to how your Special Day should go, our years of experience lead us to recommend the following itinerary:
1.30pm – Ceremony will take place
2.00pm – Drinks reception
3.00pm – Guests can check in to their rooms
4.00pm – Call to dinner
4.15pm – Cake cutting
4.30pm – Speeches
5.00pm – The meal is served
6.30pm – Guests break out of the room, to allow your evening reception and entertainment to set up.
7.30pm – Evening guests arrive
7.45pm – Newlyweds take the floor for the first dance
9.00pm – Evening buffet and cake served
Midnight – Residential guests may retire to the Gladstone Bar for a night cap.
